Week (2) What are the number systems ?

Hello again,

How are you all ? I am fine . Now , I want to post about number system in a computer ? Do you guys know how many different type of number systems ? And which one is the computer used in system ?  Actually , I had learned this topic in one of our lecture in week two. I really want to share with you guys.

There are four number system . We all think that there is only decimal number . Actually , there are also binary , octal and hexadecimal number system.

Decimal number system normally uses  numerals to form a string of numbers . The values are 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and 9 . Decimal numbers have  a base or radix of ten  which are very similar to the way we count and deal with numbers in our daily life.

 

Binary number are used two numerals or digits to form a string of numbers. They are 0 and 1 . They are also known as bits. It have a base of two. This is the number system used by computers . All the information in the digital computer is represented as bit patterns.

 

Octal number are used eight  numerals to form a string of numbers. They are
0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6  and 7. Octal number have a base of eight . This number system is not very popular.

Hexadecimal  uses symbols  which are both numerals and letters  to form a string of numbers . They are  0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , A , B , C , D , E and F. Hexadecimal have a base or radix of sixteen .
